Wireless Networking/Security

You've got three computers, two printers, plus you just bought a new Notebook and want to be able to sit outside and "surf the net" and you have four users all sharing information on your "sneaker net" network. What's a "sneaker net" network? That is where you copy a file to a flash drive and then "sneak" over to a computer that has a priner attachd, insert the flash drive (hoping that the correct app is on this computer for printing the file), bring the file up, print it, take the flash drive out ... you get the picture. If your network resembles that description, then there's a wireless network in your future.

WIRELESS NETWORKS ARE SECURE! WIRELESS NETWORKS ARE NOT COMPLICATED! WIRELESS NETWORK EQUIPMENT COSTS ARE MINIMAL!

When a wireless network is properly set-up and configured it is SECURE!! With the latest N Band Protocols (and even with G Band), your wireless router can be configured so that ONLY computers that YOU AUTHORIZE can connect to your network.

Your wireless network can also be configured so that as long as a user has the correct password (these passwords use 128 bit or 256 bit encryption) that user can access your network and share your internet connection. With a wireless network you can have considerably more users EASILY sharing your Internet connection than with a "wired' network. A great feature for small business with a need for that.

If security is a concern and you haven't installed a wireless network because of it, then by all means contact me.

Do you know that according to PC World Magazine there were 25,000,000 new variants of MalWare created in just the year 2009. That is 25 MILLION new variants ... People that is 68,493 variants PER DAY!! That is a LOT of Malware.

    Virus/Malware Protection:

If your Virus Protection (I have FREE Anti-Virus solutions available) is not up to date ... If your Spy-ware blocker needs to be demoted to second string ... If YOU are not knowledgeable about "phishing" scams and "spoof" emails and "basic" security methods ... and most of all "Mal-Ware" then you are apt to be in for a rude awakening and quite possibly financial difficulty!

I can make this GUARANTEE ... there is absolutely no way possible (short of unplugging your computer) to 100% protect yourself from viruses, malware, or online Identity Theft!! With that said, one CAN protect oneself, AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, from infection by using tools that are provided FREE OF CHARGE by Microsoft, Grisoft (AVG), and other software solutions. You can also "purchase" protection but it isn't any better than the "free" offerings. It is DILIGENCE on your part that will protect your system and identity. I can show you how. Contact me if interested.

    Website Design:

If you have a need for a Website but your budget doesn't allow the "hosting fees" much less the exorbitant cost of even simple websites today ... Contact Me! I will build you a 5 page website (basic site) and show you how to "maintain" that website for $500.00. That price includes domain name, web hosting, design tools, email accounts, Search Engine Optimization and a host of templates for "changing the look" and "feel" of your website. My price also includes CONTENT!! Most budget website have an extra charge for "content" - for those that do not know, "content" is the "verbiage" - photos, slideshows ... information. You will have a "live" website, ready for visitors when I turn the passwords over to you. I will maintain your website for you on a scheduled basis should you desire.

If you just want "Website Maintenance" at a REASONABLE cost then contact me. Upwards of $45.00 per half hour for maintenance is just ludicrous. Having a website that you don't (or can't) control is not in your best interest. I can show you how to have a "web presence" without having a degree in Computer Science or advanced training in HTML coding. Contact Me for details.

Windows XP to Windows 7 Upgrade

Do you want to UPGRADE your "Windows XP" to "Windows 7"? Unfortunately, that IS NOT going to happen ... at least not easily. Microsoft did not see fit to make this possible. If you are running XP on your system you will have to do a "Full Install" and use the Windows Migration Tool to transfer your data to Windows 7.

One can upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 BUT there are caveats to that as well. You CANNOT upgrade from Vista Business to say, Windows 7 Ultimate. To UPGRADE to Windows 7 Ultimate you have to have Vista Ultimate already installed on your machine. There are no "legal" or "illegal" ways to DIRECTLY upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 ... anyone that tells you otherwise is obviously misinformed.  The ONLY way to UPGRADE XP to Windows 7 is by FIRST upgrading XP to "Vista". THEN you upgrade Vista to Windows 7. Yes, it works and I have done it on several occasions.

What does the above mean to you, the end user? It means that, unless you go the XP to Vista to Windows 7 route,  ANY third party programs will have to be re-installed from their original disks. This includes Microsoft  programs as well. It means that any documents or photos (or ANY type of personal files) that you have on your computer will become inaccessible unless you know how to locate them. If you need help, Contact Me!

  VCR TO DVD DUPLICATION:

Over the past couple of years I have had a number of people inquire about VCR to DVD duplication services. I didn't have the equipment needed to do this type of work at a resonable cost to the consumer. Thanks to "Santa Claus" that problem has been remedied.

So, if you have a library of VCR cassettes or just one that needs to be transferred to DVD, it can be done. If you wish to make your files accessible from any computer while maintaining strict control, that can be done as well. Contact me for more information.

Computer/Software Repair/Upgrades

The "average" home user that wants to upgrade a computer is presented with a VAST array of computers ranging in price from $400 to about $1400 on average. What to buy? I can help you make that decision and save you money, time, and/or frustration! You may have an "older" system that is running slow and just doesn't perform as well as it used to. That doesn't mean that it is ready for the scrap pile though. Most computers can handle 4 gigabyte of RAM yet have only 512 megabyte "on board". In most instances I can "upgrade" the hardware on your system for less than $250.00 (including labor) ... Contact Me.
